There are two types of mice that we find in Portland area homes. The
first is the House Mouse, it's a dark gray rodent with a light gray belly. Typical size is between 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches including the tail. The other
type of mouse we deal with is the Deer Mouse. The Deer Mouse is typically about 7 inches long including the tail. This mouse has various brown coloring with lighter sides and a white belly. Both these mice can be found just about anywhere in the home and are just as capable of climbing as they are of staying subterranean.
Females usually give birth to 4 or 5 young after a gestation of 3 to 4 weeks. They begin journeying outside the nest around day 4, and by five weeks they're usually completely weaned and on their own. These mice reach sexual maturity between 35 and 45 days.
Mice can live anywhere in your home from the crawlspace, up to the
attic, and everywhere in between. We believe that the first step to
solving your mouse problem is to seal off their entrances so the mice
that are in, stay in, and the mice that are out, stay out. The problem
is then contained and we can deal with the mice left inside. We feel
very strongly against using any type of poison to kill these rodents,
as poisons are not humane, not always safe, and can lead to other
issues like a mouse dying somewhere uncontrollable, and stinking up your
house.
